DKIM Checker - Look Up and Validate DKIM Records

Check a domain's DKIM public key by selector, see the key type and real bit length, and catch revoked, weak or malformed keys. Don't know the selector? Scan the common ones.

Don't know the selector?It's the s= value in a message's DKIM-Signature header.
Enter a domain and selector to check the DKIM public key.

How to Read a DKIM Record

A typical DKIM record looks like v=DKIM1; k=rsa; p=MIIBIjANBgkqh...

  • v=DKIM1: version, optional but recommended.
  • k=rsa or k=ed25519: key type. RSA is assumed when omitted.
  • p=: the base64 public key. An empty p= means the key was revoked.
  • t=y: testing mode. Remove it once signing works.

DKIM only protects your domain against spoofing when a DMARC policy is in place. Check SPF too, and use the header analyzer to see DKIM results on a real message.

DKIM FAQ

What is DKIM?

DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail, RFC 6376) adds a cryptographic signature to outgoing email. The sending server signs selected headers and the body with a private key, and receivers verify the signature with the public key published in DNS at selector._domainkey.yourdomain.com.

What is a DKIM selector and how do I find it?

A selector is a name that lets one domain publish several DKIM keys, for example one per email service. Find it in the DKIM-Signature header of a message you sent: the s= value is the selector and d= is the domain. Or use "Find selectors" to scan names common providers use.

What are the DKIM selectors for Google Workspace and Microsoft 365?

Google Workspace uses "google" by default. Microsoft 365 uses "selector1" and "selector2", published as CNAMEs that point to Microsoft-hosted keys. Other services usually show their selector in the DNS setup instructions.

Should my DKIM key be 1024 or 2048 bits?

Use 2048-bit RSA. 1024-bit keys are still accepted but are considered weak, and keys below 1024 bits are rejected by major receivers. If your DNS host can't store a 2048-bit key in one string, split it into several quoted strings in the same TXT record.

Why does DKIM fail even though the record exists?

Common causes: the message was modified in transit (mailing lists, footers, security gateways), the public key in DNS doesn't match the private key used for signing, the record has stray quotes or line breaks, or the signature's d= domain differs from the domain you checked.
